System Design

The basic design is a HERMS (heat exchange recirculating mash system) configuration with some custom automation.  The system is semi-automated with 2 digital temperature controllers.  One controller senses temperature out of the mash tun and operates two solenoid valves to send recirc flow in one of two directions... either directly back to the mash tun or indirectly through the HERMS coil in the sparge tank. The second controller is used to maintain sparge temperature via a propane solenoid valve.
